We've all been there, times in our lives where we are desparate for a miracle from God. The miracle may be of healing, it may deal with finances, it may be restoration of a marriage or the need of a job. The bottom line is that all of us at some point and time have been there. Today I was listening to a sermon about the woman with the issue of blood and God just started speaking to me about this woman. Here's the scene, a large crowd had gathered around Jesus. I'm assuming a lot of people are there because they've heard about Jesus and his miracle. A synagogoue leader goes there to see Jesus and when he sees him he falls to his feet. Mind you this is not something a synagogue leader would do but he was desparate for a miracle because his little girl was dying. He asked Jesus to come and put His hands on her so that she would be healed. So Jesus went with him and a large crowd followed. I can only imagine the crowd is even bigger because afterall a synogogue leader just knelt at the feet of Jesus asking for healing for his daughter and everyone loves to see a miracle. There were probably lots of "spectators" and "doubting Thomases" who just went along for the ride to see if this Jesus guy is real. Now in the midst of this crowd the woman with the issue of blood pushes through the crowd because she believes that if she can just touch his cloak she'll be healed. I can only imagine this lady is full of embarassment and shame because the issue of blood is not something you can hide but yet, she doesn't care, she wants to touch the cloak of Jesus. She wants to get close enough to at least touch his cloak so that she can be healed. Her desparation to "push through" brought upon her healing. She could have just kept moving along with the crowd, she could have given up thinking it was impossible to touch him, she could have even just been content with being around Jesus but no - she wanted to touch a part of him. Mark 5:24-34
Okay so that story in itself speaks volumes but it got me to thinking about something. How many times are we in God's presence but we don't press in,? How many times are we content with just getting a "quick fix" instead of pressing in like the woman with the issue of blood. This woman was so, so desparate that not only was she able to press through the crowd to get close enough to touch his cloak but she did so with so much faith that in the midst of everyone pressing against him Jesus actually felt her touch and yet she didn't touch Him but his cloak. Why did Jesus feel her touch and not the others pressing against him??? Because she was desparate and she was seeking Him. She wasn't just coming to see Jesus she was coming to reach out and touch Jesus. She was pressing in to get everything God had for her and then some. It made me think about so many people who just "do church". They go through the motions, at church every Sunday, sing, praise the Lord etc., but yet they don't press in, they don't touch God. How sad. I'll be honest with you, today I didn't feel like going to church but I forced myself to do so and I'm so glad that I did because I pressed in and had a special encounter with God. I pressed in through every hindrance because I was in a place today where I really just needed to hear from God and be in His presence because in His presence is fullness of joy and peace that surpasses all understanding. After being in His presence my whole demeanor changed. When you press in and when you touch Him in the spirit realm you can't remain the same. He changes you.
So here's my question to you, have you pressed into His presence so that He's asking, who touched me or are you just hanging around Him, being a spectator, doing the "church" thing, looking for the quick fix value meal versus all He has to give you. Are you seeking His kingdom before everything else? If not, try seeking first His kingdom and watch, just watch what He will do in you, through you and for you. Don't settle for less than what God has for you - PRESS IN, PRESS IN and God will say, who touched me. Yes I want to know that I touched God.
Thank you Lord for the opportunity I have that I can praise you freely and know that you do make all things new. I love you Jesus.
